Tyler Chan

"I loved being a Teaching Assistant. It was a lot like coaching—you really have to get to know the students to help them do well "

Being a good coach requires more than just being good at a sport. For Tyler, his natural talent for teaching others serendipitously led him to his accounting career.
My experience at SFU Beedie
I spent many years developing my leadership skills as a hockey and skating coach so after I transferred from engineering at Capilano University to the Beedie School of Business at SFU, I was excited to take on multiple leadership roles.
My Journey

During my time at SFU Beedie, I was able to help other students by being a mentor with the BASS Mentorship Program, being a Teaching Assistant, and being co-captain of the SFU Beedie team for JDC West.

Outside of school, I started the Britannia After School Hockey program (BASH) for underpriviledge children and youth. After the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, kids in the neighbourhod were coming up to us asking to play hockey, so we got the resources together in order to provide free hockey training, equipment, and ice time.

My BBA major comprised of:

Student Engagement

Teaching Assistant

JDC West Co-Captain

BASS mentor

Where I am today

After finishing a summer internship with PwC, I am now working full-time with the company and am half-way through earning my CPA designation. I hope to one day volunteer as a Board Member for a local non-profit!
