The U-PASS BC is a transportation package allowing SFU students in Metro Vancouver with universal and affordable access to public transit.

The Right Choice

Your student’s decision to attend SFU Beedie marks the beginning of an incredible four-year journey of growth and discovery. In choosing our Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), they have selected a program that delivers on what it promises—adaptability, versatility, and the skills required in the ever-shifting global business landscape. They will learn from the best in a supportive environment that prioritizes applied problem-solving and learning that extends beyond the classroom. Your guidance helped bring them to this life-changing moment and gave them the confidence to pursue a business education.

With 93% of 1st year SFU Beedie students successfully transitioning to 2nd year, we're confident your student is making the right choice for their future.

    Support from Day One

When we welcome a student into the SFU Beedie community, we also welcome their family and supporters. We’re in this together, each with an essential role to play.

Our academic advisors will offer guidance to your student and provide strategies to achieve their educational goals. We are also here to answer your questions and provide clarity for both you and your student.

Our support goes beyond academics. Your student also has access to all the resources of the SFU Beedie Career Management Centre, including one-on-one advising, workshops, career talks, company tours, mentoring, networking opportunities, recruitment events, job postings, and more. Our Cooperative Education (Co-op) advisors and Office of International Programs are also available to talk with you and your student about opportunities at home and abroad.

Visit our advisor page for all the ways to get in touch.

      Student Involvement

This is your student’s time to shine. Experiences, friendships, and community contributions are a critical part of the overall educational experience. Encourage them to participate in campus life and enrich their learning through clubs, case competitions, and leadership and community opportunities.

These are the moments when your student will discover where they can excel personally, academically, and professionally. They are the experiences that will inform future decisions around concentrations, courses, and potential program complements. Involvement in student life is also vital for building a support network of peers and friends during the transition from high school to university.

Share the importance of these character and skill-building opportunities with your student and discuss the potential benefits of engaging with the faculty, mentors, and peers in different environments. Take time to explore what’s offered by the SFU Beedie’s Student Development & Engagement Office, a hub connecting students to clubs, case competitions, conferences, leadership programs, and more. Visit the student organization page for more information.

        Transitioning to University Life

SFU Beedie offers a safe and supportive environment in which students are expected to take calculated risks. Your student will push boundaries as they explore their identity and look for a direction for their future.

As a parent or supporter, you are no longer your student’s primary advocate or the gatekeeper of grades and information. Once a student applies to SFU, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) prohibits university faculty and staff from discussing their personal and academic information with anyone else. This includes information on financial standing, attendance, grades, and participation in activities. To stay informed, keep all lines of communication open with your student, and check in regularly about how their year is unfolding.

          Health & Wellness

We know that your student’s emotional, social, and physical well-being is your priority. It is also our priority, and we understand that balancing health and wellness with academic achievement is critical to success. Many supports are available, from health clinics, to 24/7 counselling, referral and support programs, and more.

Before school starts, talk with your student about healthy choices in all areas of their life and help them learn about what options are available to them to take care of their health, and for times they may need help and support.

            Events

Throughout the year, SFU Beedie hosts several events designed to inform and enrich the academic experience, and to introduce your student to the business community. While most are exclusive to students, some activities are appropriate for parents and supporters. Communicate with your student about what events are on their academic calendar, and determine which ones you should attend.

              Communication and Celebrate

You can best support your student through awareness—awareness, as best you can, of what they are going through emotionally, socially, and academically. The way you stay aware is by communicating openly and honestly.

Remember: University is an intense and busy time. You may have less contact with your student than you are used to. When you do connect with your student, don’t forget to celebrate the successes you see along the way. It took years of hard work to get to this time and place. Measurements of success look different as a young adult in university. As the goalposts move—and they will—recognize achievements in all areas of growth.
