The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University is proud to host the SFU Nancy McKinstry Awards for Leadership in Diversity at the Segal Graduate School on September 25, 2013. The annual awards, now in their fifth year, recognize those who have shown exemplary leadership in advancing the cause of diversity in business.

The breakfast event will see a corporate award presented to the organization that exemplifies the values of diversity in the workplace. A graduate student scholarship will also be awarded to the Beedie School of Business graduate student who has been a leader in promoting opportunities for women in business.

In addition, for the first time this year, the Awards Selection Committee will recognize an organization that has set themselves apart with their own unique diversity program with the Exemplary Initiative Diversity Award.

This year’s keynote speaker for the breakfast event is award winning documentary filmmaker and disability rights activist Bonnie Sherr Klein. Klein worked for the National Film Board of Canada’s women’s section, Studio D, the first government-funded film studio dedicated to women filmmakers in the world. She was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada earlier in 2013, and has received a lifetime achievement award from Women in Film and Television Toronto.

The SFU Nancy McKinstry Awards for Leadership in Diversity were established in 2009 to honour Dr. Nancy McKinstry for her contributions to Simon Fraser University as Chair of the Board of Governors. A management consultant and a founding member of the Minerva Foundation for BC Women, Dr. McKinstry has served on many corporate and non-profit boards in recent years.

In recognition of her industry and community contributions, Dr. McKinstry has been the recipient of a number of distinguished awards, including the Order of Canada, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and an honorary Doctorate from Simon Fraser University.

The Nancy McKinstry Graduate Scholarship for Leadership is supported by the Nancy McKinstry Endowment, which was established to honour Dr. McKinstry and build on her legacy.
