SFU Business Names Sustainability Entrepreneur in Residence
Nov 04, 2009
SFU Business may be the first University business school in Canada to appoint a Sustainability Entrepreneur in Residence. LEED-accredited (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and former SFU Business Assistant Professor – Entrepreneurship, Dr. Boyd Cohen, will occupy this unique position.
Dr. Cohen stepped away from the academic tenure track to focus full time on his own sustainable initiative launched in 2008, 3rd Whale Media (www.3rdwhale.com). 3rd Whale Media is the leading provider of mobile solutions for lifestyles of health and sustainability (LOHAS), including an iPhone application launched in January 2009.
In September 2009, 3rd Whale Media and Ft. Collins, CO-based GenGreen LLC (www.GenGreenLife.com) announced an agreement to combine all operations and form a new company to be called GenGreen Digital Media, with Cohen assuming the role of President.
GenGreen, founded in 2007, is the owner of the largest database of green and healthy living businesses in North America, which it delivers via web, mobile and licensed API agreements to such clients as National Geographic and Gannett. A new initiative of GenGreen Digital will be the introduction of GenGreen Local, a network of hyperlocal websites offering communities a powerful new grassroots resource to share information and help build their local green economies.
SFU Business Dean, Daniel Shapiro, says the appointment of Boyd as Sustainability Entrepreneur in Residence is aligned with the business school’s mission to educate and inspire the founders, leaders and managers of organizations that are internationally competitive, locally responsive and sustainable.
As Sustainability Entrepreneur in Residence, Boyd will provide expertise and support to undergraduate and MBA students interested in green tech, green energy and sustainable business practices.
