First Graduates Rank New SFU/CIOCAN Leadership Program Top of the Class

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) profession is one of the most critical in business and industry today. With so many outcomes and so many dollars hinging on CIO decisions, it is essential that CIOs have leadership skills beyond the effective deployment of technologies.

The first graduates of an IT leadership certificate program jointly offered by the Learning Strategies Group of Simon Fraser University’s Segal School of Business and the CIO Association of Canada (CIOCAN) are acquiring those skills, according to a recently released report. Evaluating eight aspects of the program as compared with other professional development courses taken, from quality of instruction to program structure, graduates gave ratings ranging from 80 to 93 per cent. In summing up their overall experience, 100 per cent of graduates said they would recommend the program to others – and many of the program graduates already have advanced degrees.
