BBA duo awarded EDC International Business Scholarships
Jun 16, 2014
Two Beedie School of Business undergraduate students have been selected as recipients of a prestigious international business scholarship in recognition of their commitment to building an international business career.
BBA students Viktor Holicek and Rohith Manhas have been awarded the Export Development Canada (EDC) 2014 International Business Scholarships. Launched in 2000, the scholarships aim to cultivate Canada’s future business leaders by supporting students who have a keen interest in international business.
The EDC is Canada’s export credit agency that aims to foster international business opportunities for Canadian companies in order to support and develop Canada’s export trade. Each year the EDC awards 30 scholarships to post-secondary students across Canada who exhibit domestic and international business experience, leadership capabilities, and are future oriented.
Holicek’s international business experience has so far seen him complete study exchanges in Taiwan and China. In addition, he is in the process of starting his own distribution company with supply chain links into Asia and the UK, and will soon travel to Mexico to undertake an internship. “This scholarship will make a huge difference – sometimes the chance to go on exchange comes down to affordability, and this scholarship, as well as receiving the SFU Business International Mobility Award, will make these opportunities a reality,” he said.
Manhas has already completed an internship with the Canadian-India Business Counsel in Mumbai, and he is currently on exchange at ESCP Europe Business School in Paris, France. “I have always been interested in community engagement and helping the community grow, and thought, ‘what better way to do so than through international business?’,” said Manhas.
“We are delighted that both Viktor and Rohith’s international endeavors and achievements have been recognized through the EDC scholarship,” said Liana Swedahl, International Coordinator at the Beedie School of Business. “The Beedie School of Business encourages its students to learn within a global context both at home and abroad. There has never been a better time for business students to connect and experience business abroad. We hope these scholarships encourage many others to take a step outside their front door to BE Global.”
