Beedie Olympics delivers SFU spirit and funds for Right to Play
Jun 22, 2012
BURNABY, BC– As the world gears up for the forthcoming London Summer Games, a new Olympics tradition is also coming to SFU’s Beedie School of Business.
The Beedie Olympics is a new student engagement initiative aimed to strengthen the Beedie community – and raise money for the global sporting charity Right to Play.
The unique on-campus event will be the first of its kind to bring together faculty, alumni, and undergraduates through friendly competition. Through high-energy sports, socializing, and prizes, the Beedie Olympics will not only strengthen the connection between past and present students, but also foster social change.
The Beedie Olympics has set a goal to raise over $1000 in donations from participants and local businesses towards the international humanitarian organization Right to Play. Right to Play strives to improve the lives of children by ensuring their right to participate in organized sport, regardless of their social background, gender, or disability.
Event organizers maintain that in many ways, the Beedie Olympics is designed to be consistent with the values of the upcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. SFU’s business version of the Games will foster goodwill and fellowship between Beedie participants.
Eight teams of 10 to 12 individuals will be formed to represent different consituencies within the Beedie community, including student business clubs and associations, alumni, and faculty.
The event is scheduled to take place on July 7 and will include a lunch fundraiser. Spectators are welcome to show their support during the sports event and lunch.
