Catherine Aczel Boivie appointed Chair of Burnaby Board of Trade

Beedie School of Business Executive in Residence Dr. Catherine Aczel Boivie has been elected as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT).

As Chair, Boivie will work with the Board and staff to serve the BBOT’s members, advocate on behalf of Burnaby’s business interests, and continue to develop world-class programs such as the Pledge Program for a Sustainable Community. Her focus will also extend to the Access Student Career Development program, which mentors the next generation of business leaders in Burnaby.

“I look forward to working with the Board and staff to serve our members and mentor the next generation of business leaders and to implement our strategic plan that will redefine the role of the Board of Trade,” says Boivie. “I view the BBOT’s role as an economic development agency for Burnaby as an important contributor to the growth of business in Burnaby.”

Boivie is the founding chair of the Chief Information Officers Association of Canada (CIOCAN) and serves on several Boards including ICBC, Arts Club Theatre, and MedicAlert.

She is also President of Strategic Technology Leadership Corporation, where she advises organizations on strategic organizational initiatives, provides interim IT executive services, and insightful governance advisory and coaching services. Previously she served in senior executive roles at Vancity, Pacific Blue Cross and BCAA.

The recipient of numerous awards and distinctions throughout her career, Boivie has been named one of Canada’s top 100 most powerful women by the Women’s Executive Network, and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

She succeeds Leza Muir, Senior Vice President of Claims Services at Pacific Blue Cross, who now becomes Past Chair after ending her three-year term as Chair.

The BBOT is Burnaby’s pre-eminent member-based business association, bringing businesses together to develop strong networks, to represent the interests of the business community to local government, and to foster economic development.
