CMA and Beedie School of Business team up to offer SFU CMA/MBA Combined Program
Jul 26, 2012
The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University and Certified Management Accountants of British Columbia have come together to deliver the SFU CMA/MBA Combined Program – an innovative and unique program that combines the strategic leadership core of CMA and the results-focused curriculum of the SFU MBA. The curriculum will allow qualified applicants to expedite and reduce the cost of working towards their CMA designation upon completion of their MBA. The highly-regarded designation is held by only 40,000 individuals across Canada and around the world.
In addition to the full-time MBA program, students and recent graduates from SFU’s Executive MBA and Management of Technology MBA programs are also eligible for the CMA/MBA combined venture. Completing the program allows qualified students and alumni to leverage their university successes and work experience and obtain advanced standing with the CMA.
“Partnering with the Beedie School of Business to offer the CMA/MBA is the natural evolution of our long-standing relationship with Simon Fraser University,” said Vinetta Peek, CMA (Hon.), CMA, President and CEO of Certified Management Accountants of British Columbia. “Together, we are able to expand access to the CMA designation as well as meet marketplace expectations for strategic management professionals who are prepared to succeed in a globally competitive environment.”
“The SFU CMA/MBA Combined Program represents an outstanding opportunity for our students and recent alumni to bolster their education and their careers with the valuable CMA designation,” said Colleen Collins, Associate Dean at the Segal Graduate School at SFU’s Beedie School of Business. “This program underscores the tremendous relationship we have with CMA, one that is incredibly supportive of our research and teaching environment, as well as the career outcomes for our students and alumni.”
To complete the Combined CMA/MBA Program, SFU MBA graduates must have an overall grade of B with at least a B- in all of the required courses. They will also need to finish two years of relevant practical experience and the CMA Accelerated Program, as well as pass the three main CMA evaluation exams. Applicants apply for the program either in the last year of their MBA program, or within 3 years of graduating from the MBA.
