Sep 11, 2015
Dr. Sarah Lubik, a lecturer in entrepreneurship and innovation at the Beedie School of Business, and co-director of the Tech Entrepreneurship@SFU program, has been announced as Director of Entrepreneurship for SFU.
Lubik, who has been seconded to the role on a part-time basis, will play an integral role in the implementation of SFU’s innovation agenda, and support the development and alignment of SFU’s curricular and co-curricular entrepreneurship offerings.
Reporting to the SFU Vice-President, Research, she will be tasked with creating skilled, empowered students capable of creating new firms, organizational change and social impact, and developing measurement tools to access the impact of SFU’s entrepreneurial activities.
The position will also see her assume leadership of the Venture Connection student incubator, with the intention to grow the program into an even greater resource for engaging the entrepreneurial community and supporting startups across the institution from idea through to proof-of-concept.
“Working with talented and passionate educators across the school to help SFU take its rightful place as one of the best entrepreneurial universities in the country is an honour,” says Lubik.
“We are creating an ambitious and collaborative strategy for training capable, empowered, and community-engaged entrepreneurs who will be able to make a real impact in an increasingly uncertain world. The creation of this position speaks to SFU’s commitment to entrepreneurship education and training.”
After graduating from the BBA program at the Beedie School of Business, Lubik earned an MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge. Upon returning to Beedie she began championing new interdisciplinary programs in innovation and entrepreneurship, and was instrumental in the launch of the interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship and Innovation concentration.
In 2014 she was named among BC’s top entrepreneurs, executives and professionals in the Business in Vancouver Forty Under 40 awards. She received the 2013 Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management’s Dr. Theo Williamson Award for her paper, “Market-pull and technology-push in manufacturing startups in emerging industries.”
Away from SFU, Lubik is Marketing Director of high-tech startup Lungfish Dive Systems, which develops and sells an innovative re-breather system for divers.
