SFU entrepreneurs named Changemakers by The Globe and Mail for innovative startups in tech and sustainability

Two SFU alumni have been named in The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine‘s 2022 Changemakers, an annual list of emerging leaders transforming business today. Rene Blanco and Sumreen Rattan, entrepreneurs from The Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship, are two of 50 Canada-wide award recipients comprised of entrepreneurs, academics and executives who are striving to find innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. SFU Beedie team finishes strong in top Western Canada case competition

A team of undergraduates at SFU’s Beedie School of Business delivered a strong performance this year at the Jeux du Commerce (JDC) West case competition in January, the most prestigious event of its kind in Western Canada. Temporary shift to remote learning January 10 – 24, 2022

SFU will begin the spring term with a temporary, two-week shift to remote learning and teaching for lectures and seminars. These temporary measures will be in effect January 10 – 24. SFU Beedie’s student-managed funds to drop fossil fuel investments

SFU Beedie’s two student-managed investment funds are set to become fossil-fuel-free, in line with the university’s commitment to full divestment from fossil fuels announced on November 2, 2021. The $22.4 million Student Investment Advisory Service (SIAS) fund, run by students in SFU Beedie’s MSc in Finance program, and the $8.02 million Beedie Endowment Asset Management (BEAM) fund, run by undergraduate students, have both made the commitment to divest by the end of 2022. Changing the Face of Sustainable Energy: Alumni Startup Moment Energy Closes $3.5 Million Seed Round

Moment Energy, a sustainable startup transforming second-life electric vehicle batteries and a client of SFU’s Coast Capital Savings Venture Connection incubator program, recently closed a $3.5 million seed funding round led by Version One Ventures. Co-founded by four graduates from SFU’s Mechatronic Systems Engineering Program, Moment Energy creates sustainable energy storage systems by repurposing retired electric vehicle batteries.
