Beedie students collect sports equipment for low-income families

What started as a school assignment has turned into a sporting drive to help families in need. Five SFU Beedie School of Business students in a project management class came up with the idea to hold a sporting drive. The students are Adam Fong, Charles Lui, Emily Shen, Jethro Rocillo and Louis Lam. “So many people are supportive of this,” said organizer Emily Shen.

Economics nomination honour for Aidan Vining

Aidan Vining, a professor of business and government relations at SFU’s Beedie School of Business, was selected as one of two finalists for the 2010 Kenneth J. Arrow Prize for Senior Economists this past May. His paper, “An Assessment of Important Issues Concerning the Application of Benefit-Cost Analysis to Social Policy,” was co-authored with David Weimer, a professor of public affairs and political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. MBAs push Singapore hotels to go green with winning business pitch

SFU graduate business students Kathleen Williams, Peter Konefal, Eva Tidlund and Connie Chang were selected from a global field in the Graduate School Projects@Singapore competition. The team’s faculty adviser is David Hannah, an Associate Professor of Management and Organization Studies at SFU and Academic Director of the MBA program. Their project proposal, which has now been accepted by Contact Singapore, an alliance of the Singapore Economic Development Board and Ministry of Manpower, is focused on integrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental standards in Singapore’s booming hotel industry.

MBA students from Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business enjoyed a first-hand overview of key issues facing the natural gas industry at a special forum hosted by Encana on June 20. Held at the Segal Graduate School in downtown Vancouver, the day-long event featured industry speakers from both Encana and Westport Innovations discussing, among other subjects, the growing role of natural gas in North America’s energy mix.
