SFU students unveil international projects to achieve United Nations goals
Apr 09, 2015
Beedie School of Business and Faculty of Environment (FENV) students at Simon Fraser University will address globally gripping challenges when they unveil a package of proposals for the United Nations (UN) on Monday, April 13.
At a free public presentation and poster session teams comprised of Beedie and Development and Sustainability (DEVS) students in FENV will explain projects that target communities as far afield as Nepal, Botswana and Sierra Leone.
The projects are the culmination of a pioneering, interdisciplinary experiential learning project designed to help the UN meet its proposed Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), which will be officially launched in September 2015.
Putting an end to world hunger, ensuring equitable quality education, and combating climate change are just some of the economic, social and environmental objectives of the students’ projects.
Projects range from providing improved animal feed for farmers to increase meat production, to installing solar powered purification technology to provide clean water access to indigenous peoples.
The UN says its proposed SDGs seek to “galvanize action worldwide… for poverty reduction, food security, human health and education, climate change mitigation, and a range of other objectives across the economic, social and environmental pillars.”
Media are welcome to attend.
