Jim Sibley delivers Team Based Learning session
Jan 11, 2013
Our November 22nd workshop on Team Based Learning (TBL) was excellent. Jim Sibley, Director of the Centre for Instructional Support at the Faculty of Applied Science at University of British Columbia and a strong advocate for TBL, did an excellent job modelling how this pedagogy can be used in the classroom.
Team-Based Learning was born in the University of Oklahoma Business School. The methodology focuses on having teams make difficult decisions and then publicly report and defend their decisions. The methodology has since spread to other disciplines and gives us very powerful method to bring deep learning to large classroom settings. The method effectively addresses two important aspects of our classroom experiences – what happens when we can have our students come to class prepared? and what happens when we effectively engage our students in disciplinary decision-making?
The workshop was videotaped by the Teaching and Learning Centre. The videos are broken into seven learning segments:
Part 1: An Introduction to Team Based Learning
