Beedie School of Business Professor and former MBA program director Judy Zaichkowsky took advantage of a recent trip to Shanghai to reconnect with a group of MBA alumni.

Zaichkowsky was visiting Shanghai to explore the possibility of hosting an SFU undergraduate field school at the EMLyon Asian campus at East China Normal University. While there, she took the opportunity to engage with several of her former students now based in China.

Beedie alumni Sven Gebhard, Holly Wang, Feng Li and Herbert Leung, all of whom were members of the 1999 MBA cohort, were on hand to welcome Zaichkowsky to Shanghai.

Wang, Li and Leung are currently based in Shanghai, while Gebhard was visiting for an industrial trade show. The reunion was completed when the group were later joined by fellow SFU alumni, Paul Wong, who graduated in 1994 with a BSc in mathematics.

Leung has worked in the beverage industry in Shanghai for nine years and is currently responsible for bringing the product Hard Cider to Shanghai. After dinner he invited the group to his Concept Tasting Bar, where they sampled a few of the drinks for which he is responsible while reminiscing about their Beedie experience.

“The opportunity to engage with our SFU alumni as far afield as Shanghai was a fantastic experience,” says Zaichkowsky. “Our alumni community are extremely important to us at the Beedie School of Business and it was wonderful being able to reconnect and witness first hand how they are prospering and making use of their Beedie education.”
