Sep 04, 2012

The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University is partnering with prominent Vancouver radio station CKNW News Talk 980 to bring some of British Columbia’s top business minds – ranging from the president of Lululemon Athletica to the founder of HootSuite – to SFU in a forthcoming series of exclusive CEO interviews.

“The Chief Executives”, a series profiling some of the country’s top executives, will be held at SFU Vancouver. Hosted by CKNW host Bill Good, a total of eight interviews will be broadcast, beginning on September 13 with Jim Treliving, co-owner of Boston Pizza and Mr. Lube, and well-known for being a venture capitalist on the television program Dragons’ Den.

For the first time this year, the series will be broadcast in front of a live audience, and will also allow for an exclusive question and answer period after each interview.

The highly successful series engages with high profile CEOs from BC and across Canada in an intimate one hour interview focusing on innovative strategies, unique aspects of their corporations and tips for the business leaders of tomorrow. The executives will also share insight and wisdom from their experiences as the CEOs of some of the nation’s top companies and reveal what has made them so successful in the business world and what drives them to succeed.

The list of high profile executives to have the spotlight shone on them in this year’s series includes Angus Reid, Chairman of Vision Critical; Ryan Holmes, CEO of HootSuite; Brian Scudamore, CEO of 1-800-GOT-JUNK; Tom Gaglardi, President of Northland Properties Group and owner of the Dallas Stars NHL franchise; Karen Flavelle, President and CEO of Purdy’s Chocolates; Christine Day, CEO of Lululemon Athletica; and Jacqui Cohen, President and CEO of Army & Navy.

Previous executives to have been interviewed on past editions of “The Chief Executives” include Francesco Aquilini, owner of the Vancouver Canucks, John Furlong, Executive Director, Vancouver Whitecaps, Jim Pattison, owner of the Jim Pattison Group, Sue Paish, CEO of Pharmasave, Ron Toigo, Managing Director of Shato Holdings Ltd, David Podmore, CEO of Concert Properties, Donald Lindsay, CEO of Teck Resources, Wynne Powell, President & CEO of London Drugs, and Tamara Vrooman, CEO of Vancity.

“We are thrilled to partner with CKNW to bring some of Canada’s leading CEOs to SFU Vancouver – including the Segal Graduate School of Business and SFU Harbour Centre,” said Kirk Hill, Assistant Dean of External Affairs for the Beedie School of Business. “The breadth, depth and industries represented synch perfectly with our key strategic themes of innovation, globalization, sustainability and capital markets, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to learn from these business leaders.”
