2008 TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Awards Announced

Aug 18, 2008

On August 18, 2008, Anne Macdonald, Chair of the Teaching Effectiveness Committee, announced the winners of the 2008 TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Awards: Mr. Scott Powell and Mr. Stephen Spector.

Scott Powell is an Adjunct Professor with the Segal Graduate School of Business, and teaches courses in corporate finance and financial management, across a number of programs. Stephen Spector is a Lecturer in the Undergraduate accounting area, and has taught a wide range of both managerial and financial accounting courses.

Nominations for the TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Awards are made by students and are based on excellence and distinction in teaching.

Faced with a difficult task, the Committee had to make their selection from the exceptional teachers nominated. “Scott had multiple nominations from students this year, and Stephen had also been nominated in prior years,” explains Madonald.

This is the first win for each. In adjudicating the award, the Committee sought feedback from students and in both cases, Scott and Stephen’s students praised their energy and enthusiasm in the classroom, use of real-world examples, and their commitment to students’ learning and growth.

Congratulations Scott and Stephen on your continued excellence in teaching, and your contributions to the University.
