SFU Business is bringing together alumni from all past cohorts of the MOT program along with staff, faculty and current students. This free event is a unique opportunity for alumni to reconnect with MOT classmates and to help develop the community of MOTs building successful technology and biotechnology companies right here in Vancouver.

Panellist Bios

Jacek Gorwa
CTO at Collingwood Carbon Solutions Inc.
After spending 7 years as a Programmer/Analyst working on various application development projects for the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, Jacek started his independent consulting practice in 1999. For almost a decade, he led small and large development teams to several successful implementations and deployments of large and highly scalable enterprise systems for the Boeing Company. In his role as a Consultant, System Architect and Project Manager, Jacek had an opportunity to work closely with off-shore development teams from India and Russia. Jacek is a Sun Certified Enterprise Architect and holds a Bachelor of Technology (Computer Systems) from British Columbia Institute of Technology as well as Management of Technology MBA from Segal Graduate School of Business at Simon Fraser University.
Nigel Protter
President & CEO at SyncWave Systems Inc.

SyncWave Systems Inc. is a pioneering Canadian ocean renewable energy technology development firm developing SyncWave Power Resonator, a reactionless frequency-based tunable slack-moored point absorber wave energy converter. Nigel and his company were the proud winners of a $2.7M SDTC award. Nigel is actively involved in the green technology space and has been a member or director of associations such as the Ocean Renewable Energy Group, the BC Wind Energy Working Group, the Independent Power Producers Association of BC, the Federal Environmental Technology Roundtable, and the “Green Power in Canada” Round Table. Nigel is also the Founder and Managing Director of Exergetics Development Co. which accelerates responsible development of large green energy projects.
Dawn Waterhouse
Director of Non-Clinical Studies for the Investigational Drug Program and Manager, Production & Manufacturing at BC Cancer Agency

Dr. Dawn Waterhouse was first exposed to drug development specifically in liposomal therapeutics, at Inex Pharmaceuticals Corp in 1995. Since then, she has completed a Ph.D. in the development of novel therapeutics for breast cancer and an MBA in Management of Biotechnology, and shifted to co-supervisory duties in the Department of Advanced Therapeutics BC Cancer Agency, with a focus on drug formulation and development. As Director of Non-Clinical Studies for the Investigational Drug Program and Manager, Production & Manufacturing, Dr. Waterhouse liaises with a number of companies both in the lower mainland of British Columbia and in the United States to guide them in developing and executing specific strategies to enable their drug development activities and to add value to their product candidates. Dawn holds an Adjunct Professor position at the University of British Columbia and provides training on drug development and Regulatory Affairs.
Joshua Zoshi
Cofounder of Saltworks Technologies Inc.

Joshua Zoshi is the President of Saltworks Technologies, a Vancouver-based cleantech startup. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and an MOT MBA, both from SFU. Josh has worked in the semiconductor, software, and management consulting fields and has worn numerous hats, including research engineer, systems architect, and project manager. As an entrepreneur, Josh’s current focus is building a successful high-tech venture while supporting the local tech community.
