When Stephanie Wong collects her degree in business administration this month, no one will be able to accuse her of not making the most of her SFU experience.

Passionate about diversity and equality, Wong’s list of achievements is long and distinguished. Among them is the SFU chapter of Young Women in Business she founded in 2009.

“When I first arrived here I saw a gap for such a club and the opportunity to build a bridge between alumni and students,” says Wong. “I am proud to have seen something I started grow and spread into other faculties.”

Wong has participated in four co-op terms at SFU and is a shining example of the benefits of co-op education. Her last term with L’Oréal in Montreal resulted in her being offered a permanent position with the company.

“It was a huge burden lifted knowing that I had a position waiting for me after graduation,” says Wong. “The co-op program allowed me to try out several career options, and I can begin my career with confidence knowing I am suited to the role.”

Wong’s contribution to SFU has been recognized with a number of awards including this year’s Student Impact Award, given to the student who most inspires the entire Beedie School of Business community.

Also this year, she became SFU’s first recipient of the HSBC Women in Business Leadership Award, which includes $10,000 per year toward the final two years of a degree. “It’s a huge honour,” she says, adding, “I plan on putting this huge blessing towards my postgraduate education.”

Wong leaves SFU with an impressive résumé, her achievements too numerous to list here. But as the end nears, does she have any regrets?

“It is a little bittersweet to be leaving but it feels like the right time to move on,” she says. “SFU was an enriching experience, and it has helped me develop into who I am today.”
