The Certificate in Business Technology Management at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business is the first Business Technology Management program in Canada to be awarded national accreditation.

The accreditation is the result of a rigorous process of program evaluation conducted by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS), and the Canadian Coalition for Tomorrow’s ICT Skills (CCICT).

“This is a milestone achievement in the development of the BTM program at SFU,” said Dr. Dianne Cyr, Academic Director of the BTM certificate. “We are grateful to the support of the BTM advisory board, who have worked in conjunction with SFU faculty and staff to realize our accreditation goal.”

Launched in 2010, the Certificate in Business Technology Management (BTM) provides undergraduate students at the Beedie School of Business with skills in technology and business that enable them to design, implement and lead changes necessary for progressive organizations.

Along with the development of interpersonal communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, BTM students learn to analyze business processes, design appropriate technology-based solutions, and lead projects.

“We are very pleased to have the first program accredited and congratulate the Beedie School of Business on this fantastic achievement,” said Dr. Blaize Reich, national Academic Lead for the BTM program. “The BTM program teaches a special combination of skills and knowledge that will benefit Canada’s innovation and productivity.”

“After three years, we are very pleased to support SFU in creating an elite program and producing business technology professionals that can contribute effectively to our industry and enhance our community,” said Nelson Lah, Chair of the BTM Advisory Board.

In honor of the accreditation, CIPS BC will present students, faculty, and the advisory board from the Business Technology Management program with a commemorative plaque at a special reception on June 26.
