Professor Blaize Horner Reich appointed to BTM Advisory Council
May 22, 2014
Dr. Blaize Horner Reich, the RBC Professor of Technology and Innovation at SFU’s Beedie School of Business, has been appointed to the Canadian Business Technology Management (BTM) Advisory Council.
The BTM program is a national undergraduate university program developed with the Canadian Coalition for Tomorrow’s ICT Skills (CCICT). It teaches undergraduate students about innovation, leadership, and implementation of change in organizations enabled by information and communications technology (ICT).
In her role on the BTM Advisory Council, Reich will provide strategy for the expansion of the BTM program, and help govern the use of a recent $1.6 million grant from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada to refresh, and enhance the BTM initiative.
“It is a privilege to work with the Canadian Coalition, a forward-thinking group of employers who worked with the academic community to develop this innovative education program,” said Reich. “The BTM program is a Canadian academic success story, producing over 2000 BTM graduates annually from 14 universities coast to coast.”
Reich has been the national academic leader of the BTM Program in Canada since its inception in 2009. Along with colleagues at the Beedie School of Business, she developed the school’s BTM Certificate, which in 2013 became the first BTM program in Canada to be awarded national accreditation.
An internationally respected researcher and speaker, Reich currently serves on two national professional association boards, the CIO Association of Canada and the Information and Communications Technology Council.
Previously she was a director on the advisory board of the Women’s Executive Network Vancouver chapter, and was a founding board director of insurance company Industrial Alliance Pacific Insurance and Financial Services, and BC supermarket chain Thrifty Foods.
Students undertaking the BTM certificate at the Beedie School of Business develop interpersonal communication, collaboration and leadership skills, and learn to analyze business processes, design appropriate technology-based solutions and lead projects.
Upon completion of the accredited BTM certificate, SFU graduates join an elite group of business professionals supported by a national coalition of employers.
