SFU Beedie professor Rosalie Tung selected as next Editor-in-Chief of prestigious international business journal

Rosalie Tung, Professor of International Business at SFU’s Beedie School of Business, has been selected to serve as the next Editor-in-Chief of the most prestigious international business journal in the world.

Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business Professor Rosalie Tung has been selected to serve as the next Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). The only international business journal to be included in both the Financial Times journals list as well as the UT Dallas list of leading business journals, JIBS is the top-ranked journal in the field of international business.

The announcement comes from the Executive Board of the Academy of International Business (AIB), the leading global association for the promotion and dissemination of international business scholarship. The AIB awarded Tung with the John H. Dunning AIB President’s Award in 2021 for her achievements and contributions to the field of international business.

“Perhaps the greatest honor that an academic can receive is recognition by their peers,” says Tung. “I am deeply humbled by this selection, as the competition was intense—proposals for the Editorship were submitted by many top International Business scholars from around the world. I am honored to be selected and grateful for this opportunity to give back to a field that has been an important part of my professional career.”

Tung, whose research focuses on international business and management studies as well as Asia-Pacific business, has held the Ming and Stella Wong Chaired Professorship of International Business at SFU Beedie since 1991.

Tung has been involved with the AIB throughout her career. Having served as both President and Dean of Fellows, she is one of only 16 international business scholars worldwide to be awarded a Gold Medal for “most substantive contributions” in the Journal of International Business Studies.

In addition to the AIB, Tung has also served as the 2003 to 2004 President of the Academy of Management, the leading association of management professors from around the world.

“Being named Editor-in-Chief of JIBS is a massive achievement that really puts Rosalie in a most distinguished category of scholars globally,” says Ujwal Kayande, dean of SFU’s Beedie School of Business. “We are so proud to count Rosalie among our SFU Beedie colleagues.”

Tung has previously been an Area Editor of the Journal of International Business Studies, Senior Editor of the Journal of World Business, and Editor-in-Chief of Cross Culture & Strategic Management.

“I am delighted to have assembled a gender-balanced editorial team who are all full professors—this is a first in the history of the Journal of International Business Studies,” says Tung. “The motto of my team is ‘Integrity, Inclusiveness and Impact,’ which is consistent with the AIB’s Mission, Vision and Values. We will strive to uphold the highest ethical standards, inclusivity in geographic representation, disciplinary backgrounds, research paradigms and cognitive approaches, and impact on society.”
