Beedie School of Business undergraduate student Tamara Hombrebueno has been honoured with the 2013 Dean’s Student Service Award in recognition of her contribution to the Beedie community through extra-curricular activities.
The award is presented annually to an undergraduate student who has made a significant contribution to the faculty through extra-curricular participation in Business student initiatives, faculty initiatives or volunteer activities.
Hombrebueno has undertaken a plethora of extra-curricular activities to complement her studies at the Beedie School of Business. She is a former Beedie Ambassador, a member of the SFU chapter of Young Women in Business, has worked with ENACTUS SFU, and was chosen as one of 200 top students from across Canada to judge the TalentEgg National Campus Recruitment Excellence Awards.
She spent three years as a member of the SFU chapter of AIESEC, a global organization that offers international work and volunteer internships to students, including one year as Local Committee President. Among her achievements she organized the AIESEC International’s North American Public Relations Summit, which hosted representatives from across Canada and the US.
“My Beedie experience has been incredible, and the support that has been made available to me has been helpful in guiding me towards new opportunities,” said Hombrebueno. “The Beedie School of Business has opened a lot of doors for me, and I’m incredibly proud that I chose to study here.”
2012 Dean’s Student Service Award winner Amit Bhagat presented Hombrebueno with the award at the Dean’s Honor Roll Reception, a celebration of the top students at the Beedie School of Business, held at SFU’s Burnaby Campus on March 18, 2014.
To qualify for the Deans Honor Roll, students must maintain a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher in each of the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters, have successfully completed 30 units at SFU, and have completed a minimum of 12 units in the honour roll semester.
