SFU Beedie researchers secure SSHRC grants

We are excited to announce that several SFU Beedie professors have been selected to receive prestigious research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Among the grants awarded, four professors have been awarded Insight Development grants, while another professor has received an Insight grant.

SSHRC is the federal research funding agency that promotes and supports research and training in the humanities and social sciences. In total, the SFU Beedie faculty has been awarded over $350,000 in research funding during this round.

The Insight Development grants alone amount to just over $280,000, making up approximately 30 per cent of the total funding awarded to SFU researchers in this round. Three out of the four applications ranked in the top sextile were from SFU Beedie researchers, a testament to the exceptional quality of their work.

Research projects that have received an Insight Development Grant:

• Natalya Alonso: Exploring the role of gender in how professionals manage scutwork requests from clients
• Zhanna Lyubykh: Reducing the stigma of workplace mistreatment: Exploring the roles of target response and target gender
• Kam Phung: Indigenous language revitalization organizations: A participatory case study of Splatsín Tsm7aksaltn
• Samantha Seto: Managing the Remote Audit – The Effect of Management Style and Algorithmic vs. Human Managers on Auditor Behaviors and Outcomes

In addition to the Insight Development grants, SSHRC also awarded the following Insight Grant:

• Karel Hrazdil: Beauty bias in bank loan and audit fee settings
