Supplemental Application

Marks matter, but so do your experiences, achievements and communication skills. The Supplemental Application brings to life your experiences and personality. It is your chance to share with us a complete picture of who you are and why an SFU Beedie education is right for you.

What to expect

  • A short answer essay question that reveals more about who you are and demonstrates your communication skills
  • A place to describe your extra-curricular activities. From athletics and artistic pursuits to volunteer work and community involvement – tell us about your interests and what makes you unique
  • A request for two references. One must be a school teacher or counsellor, and both should be able to speak to your character, achievements and extracurricular activities
  • Something you want to share that doesn’t fit into the options above? We have a space for that!
  • Already applied to SFU Beedie? Tell us what you’ve accomplished since your previous application.
  • Payment of the Supplemental Application fee
  • Learn what makes a successful applicant, how to best prepare, and answers to our frequently asked questions by visiting our Supplemental Overview page

Frequently Asked Questions

Applications are accepted for our Fall (September) and Spring (January) terms for students applying through the High School admission pathway.

No. To be considered for admission to the Beedie School of Business you must select Business as your first choice program in the EducationPlannerBC application. If you choose Business as your alternate choice, your application will not be adjudicated.

In EducationPlannerBC, the campus you select (e.g. Burnaby or Surrey) will determine where you take BUS 201 - Introduction to Business, which is a mandatory course for your first term in the business program.

Admission to SFU Beedie is not campus specific. For example, an applicant does not have better odds at gaining admission if they apply for the Burnaby campus as opposed to the Surrey campus.

No. Applicants are able to apply for a Joint Major program or declare a Business Concentration(s) once they have been accepted. Our program is designed to give you foundational knowledge in the different concentration areas so that you can discover your passions and align future career goals before you begin to deepen your knowledge in your chosen field - we encourage BBA students to declare their concentration by their third year.

More information on our nine concentrations, including Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Strategic Analysis and more, can be found here. Once you've been admitted, connect with a Beedie Academic Advisor to plan your next steps.

The SFU Admissions Department requests, receives, and evaluates all documents (e.g. transcripts, IELTS, SAT etc.) for admission. Required documents for admission can be reviewed in your Student Center once you have submitted your application through EducationPlannerBC.

Your Supplemental Application will be evaluated by SFU Beedie's Supplemental Evaluation Committee. Applicants are competitively selected for admission based on a combination of their academic performance and Supplemental Application.

At the SFU Beedie School of Business, we believe marks matter, but so do your experiences, achievements, and communications skills. That’s why we’re asking you to submit your original work, without the assistance of ChatGPT, etc. Large language models such as ChatGPT and others reduce your voice and creativeness in your responses. We’re not looking for a perfect response. We’re looking to learn more about you, your experiences, and why you want to study at the SFU Beedie School of Business.

You may review your item statuses by reviewing the To Do List in your Student Center. Items that have been received by SFU Admissions will have a green check mark.

The self-reported grades process is completed in your Student Center under the Admission section. More information about what to report can be found here.

We encourage students presenting grade 11 and grade 12 grades (or equivalent) in the 80s and above to apply.

No. Calculus 12 (or equivalent) cannot be used in place of Pre-Calculus 12 for admission.

You can review the course requirements for High School applicants across different curricula here. If you do not meet the requirements for admission, you may wish to apply to another SFU Faculty and review our Internal Transfer admission pathway for current SFU students, or pursue the College/University Transfer admission pathway.

Yes. SFU Beedie School of Business Fall applicants with a complete and eligible Entrance Scholarship Application (including all transcripts, references and any additional documents required for admission) are not required to submit the Supplemental Application. Refer to SFU Financial Aid and Awards for details on the application process and requirements.

*NOTE: If your application is ineligible for the Entrance Scholarship due to missing required information or documents, or you no longer meet the minimum admission evaluation for the Entrance Scholarship, you will need to complete the Supplemental Application form instead. Please note that the Supplemental Application has a fee associated with it.

Yes. SFU Beedie School of Business applicants with a complete and eligible Supplemental Indigenous Undergraduate Admission form are not required to submit the Beedie Supplemental Application. Connect with SFU's Indigenous Student Recruitment team for details on the application process.

Tuition and fees vary depending on the subject area and number of units taken per term. Please see the SFU Typical Costs page to calculate your tuition estimate per term.

Students have access to a wide variety of funding options, and SFU Beedie students earned $2.8 million last year! Learn more about your funding options here.

Applications are evaluated on an ongoing, rolling basis. Please ensure you submit your documents, and any other To Do List items in a timely manner. Updates on your admission status will be visible in your Student Center.

Admission to the Beedie School of Business is based on multiple factors, including the number of spaces we have available in our program and the size and competitiveness of the applicant pool. Applicants are able to view their specific cancellation reason in their Student Center in the Admission section. If you require further clarification as to why your application has been cancelled, please contact our office at bsb_admit@sfu.ca.

If you have been offered admission to your second choice program at SFU, you may submit an appeal to the Beedie School of Business Appeals Committee provided you meet eligible grounds for an appeal. Please review appeal eligibility and instructions on our website.

If you are not accepted to your second choice program, or did not indicate one, appeals may be submitted to the SFU Senate Appeals Board. Details on this process can be found on their website here

I'm working on starting EDGE SFU to support students who might not have the same opportunities as other students. The goal is to help to provide financial support, scholarships, and job postings. It’s a lot of work getting this club off the ground, but I enjoy helping other students.

The most important thing is to get involved. It’s up to you to make this as enriching as possible, and all you have to do is raise your hand to volunteer or participate in events and clubs.

The flexibility SFU Beedie offers enabled me to combine my interests in my joint major in international business and economics, but also offered so much through experiential learning and opportunities to get involved. There is so much that the time passes very quickly, so it’s important to make the most of it while you can.

You will never know unless you try. There are always going to be opportunities to add value – it's just a matter of how you view it. Whether it is signing up for a case competition, or events and information sessions, or reaching out to senior students to ask them about their experiences, make the most of it and get involved.
