GBSA’s Annual Summer Social surely ended in burps and laughter! This was an opportunity for the MBA’s to ditch their business formals and network among other cohorts in their summer casuals over drinks and a sumptuous barbecue spread. There was opportunity to network with people from other corporate organisations too, that had booked areas in the stadium for their groups. Here are some glimpses of the evening.

It’s time for the main event…the MBA Games!

Posted on:

On January 2, 40 SFU MBA students said an early goodbye to their holiday break to catch a ferry to Nanaimo, BC and participate in the annual MBA Games. The MBA Games, which gained participation from the top 19 business schools from across Canada, encompassed three jam packed days of case competitions, spirit activities and competitive sporting events. Case competitions were challenging and were categorized by HR, marketing, finance and strategy. Sporting events were high in energy as students faced off in basketball, volleyball, soccer and dodgeball. What a way to burn off some calories from those heavy turkey dinners! Lastly, the SFU team choreographed a creative, uplifting dance for the spirit competition, which motivated everyone to bring out their best moves.
SFU did a wonderful job and ended up placing 4th in indoor soccer, 3rd in the spirit event and 4th in the team video challenge– all of which were huge successes given the level of talent in the competition. Perhaps the greatest accomplishment that SFU achieved was their fundraising of over $2,500 for the Moose Hide Campaign– a foundation which helps prevent violence against indigenous and non-indigenious women and children. They placed great effort in hosting various events and raffles throughout the semester which allowed them to reach their impressive goal and contribute to a great cause.
Overall, the MBA Games was a chaotic three days full of mentally and physically demanding events, but nonetheless, an experience to remember for all those who participated. Go SFU!
Here is the impressive video that Mervyn Mabini, Camilo Mendez Parra and Ivan Derwin put great efforts into for the team video challenge:
