GBWC Dinner Series: Women in Marketing, Communications and Entrepreneurship

Posted on:

For our second Dinner Series, the GBWC featured Women in Marketing, Communications and Entrepreneurship. We were joined by business leaders Erica Hakonson, founder of Maven Collective Marketing, and Kathleen Reid, Managing Director at Switchboard PR.

Erica and Kathleen each spoke about their career journeys and what led them to branch out on their own. Each business leader informed us about the realities of starting their own companies and spoke openly about what future entrepreneurs should consider or look out for.

We were joined by women from the SFU full time MBA, part time MBA and EMBA and the evening was filled with a lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges facing women in today’s business world.

WXN Event: Deconstructing Unconscious Bias

Wyle Baoween

The GBWC executive team had the pleasure of attending the WXN event “Deconstructing Unconscious Bias” this past week. Keynote speaker, Wyle Baoween, CEO and Founder of HRx Technology, shared his experiences of unconscious bias in the tech and human resources industries. The presentation sparked a great dialogue on the pervasiveness of unconscious bias inherent in the hiring process. Through the talk and these discussions, our team gained greater insight into how we can be mindful of our own unconscious biases, as well as how these biases may affect us as female professionals in the future. Thanks to WXN and HRx Technology for an inspiring morning!
