Paradigms and frameworks in the social sciences are in constant flux as the political, economic and social environment evolves. So it is with the eclectic paradigm, one of the cornerstones of IB theory. I revisit the meaning and nature of location-specific assets and discuss how to make it more relevant to the study of the multinational enterprise, with special reference to its relationship to firm-specific assets.

Dr. Rajneesh Narula is Professor of International Business Regulation and Director of the John H. Dunning Centre for International Business at Henley Business School, University of Reading. Professor Narula is also a Non-Residential Fellow at the OECD Development Centre, Paris and the United Nations University-MERIT in the Netherlands, and Editor-in-chief of The European Journal of Development Research. Professor Narula's research and consulting have focused on the internationalization of innovation, R&D alliances, and the role of multinational firms in industrial development.
