“I know that whatever I do, the education I gained from my SFU Beedie experience will help me to bring about change.”
Alain's remarkable journey to SFU's Beedie School of Business saw him leave behind African concentration camps to pursue his education in Canada, which sparked a passion for community and change.
My experience at SFU Beedie
The education I received at SFU's Beedie School of Business helped me tremendously—it is so much more than a university to me. I am very thankful to the school and I feel ready for the world now.
My Journey
I spent my childhood in refugee camps in Rwanda, Tanzania, and Malawi and arrived at SFU Beedie through the SFU WUSC Student Refugee Program—an initiative that allows refugees to continue their studies in post-secondary institutions across Canada.
While at SFU, I co-founded the SFU African Students' Association and Club Komera which is an initiative that brings Burundian people in BC together as a community. I am passionate about community and about people so co-founding these organizations has been an amazing ride.
My BBA major comprised of:
Education
Human Resources
Marketing
Student Engagement
Co-founder of SFU African Students' Association and Club Komera
Where I am today
I have taken on a full-time role at Dogwood Initiative but one day I intend to return to Burundi and try to help the people there.
