BBA: Sean McCloskey
International Business
“I'm an advocate and participant in the co-op program. Academic achievement is important, but it's through co-op experiences where one often discovers their genuine professional interests.”
MY JOURNEY
Growing up, my life revolved around hockey. I competed internationally and played junior hockey. I envisioned a future in professional hockey, but a serious injury derailed those dreams, forcing me to reconsider who I was beyond the ice rink and sports in general.
This period of self-discovery unfolded during the initial years of my undergraduate studies at another college. It was a time marked by uncertainty and frequent changes in my major as I sought direction.
I finally found that business was my passion and transferred to SFU. It was a smooth transition to SFU Beedie, where I was able to redefine my goals and aspirations.
MY BEEDIE EXPERIENCE
My passion for business was reinforced during my first co-op placement working for an international commodity trading firm. It awakened an interest for the global stage of commerce and compelled me to specialize in international business, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in my professional life. Now, as I embark on a new co-op role at the Provincial Health Services Authority as a Project Management Intern, I am excited for what lies ahead.
Co-op programs, like the one offered by SFU Beedie, don’t just challenge you—they also provide a smoother transition from academic life to the professional world. It was during my time in the co-op program that I gained the most insights into my own capabilities and developed a clear sense of what truly excites me professionally.
Participating in Beedie Launch was a highlight for me, a time filled with fun and gaining meaningful connections that have endured. It was a chance not only to make lasting friendships but also to learn from my peers. More than the events and networking opportunities, the support from faculty, the Career Management Centre, and co-op advisors will always stand out in my memory.
Beedie offers a wealth of opportunities for personal and professional growth—it’s up to you to seize them and shape your own journey.MY BBA PROGRAM
