“I keep in touch with new learnings through discussions with the mentees or fellow alumni, so it never feels a one-way stream.”
Why I volunteer with SFU Beedie
SFU Beedie provides many opportunities to support students and pay it forward, an idea that I certainly subscribe to. I focus my volunteering in education and financial empowerment.
During my graduate studies, I had the pleasure of witnessing the Beedie family’s endowment being established. The level of generosity inspired me and motivated me to pay it forward.
I also participated as a mentee in the inaugural Mentors in Business program and had the opportunity to network and learn from successful alumni
How I give back
- Mentor In Business (MIB) since 2014
- ELITE Case Competition, final round judge
- Career Management Centre, resume critique provider
- Business Case Presentation Reviews, critique provider
- Meet the Pros, career information networking event
- Guest panelist at various conferences
The rewards of volunteering
Time is the most valuable asset each of us has. Investing your time, in supporting the great work SFU Beedie does and supplementing it with your own knowledge and experiences will only yield positive outcomes and a high level of satisfaction.
I have benefitted by keeping in touch with some of my mentees and students I had the opportunity to meet through my volunteering years after. Seeing their growth, both personal and professional is so satisfying.
