Study in Milan, Italy

Merrill Family
Global Campus Experience

In this new group study abroad opportunity, you can immerse yourself in new cultures while participating in a specially curated course. The three- to five-week program will deepen your learning by offering a unique field study experience.

The Merrill Family Global Campus Experience was established with a very generous gift from alumnus Allan Merrill (BBA ‘00) and his family. Allan’s transformative study abroad experiences in Mexico and Chile inspired his commitment to ensure future Beedie School of Business students can broaden their horizons, just as he did. His support not only honours his own journey but also empowers the next generation to explore and realize their potential through global learning opportunities.

Read more about Allan Merrill and his vision for supporting SFU Beedie students.

Summer 2025 Program Offering

Join us in Milan in the summer of 2025 for the inaugural Merrill Family Global Campus Experience (MFGCE), led by an SFU Instructor and hosted in partnership with Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Together, you will embark on an unforgettable experience, including guest speakers and visits to iconic brands such as Gucci, Prada, Armani, Ferrari, and Lamborghini.

The Summer 2025 program will take place in Milan, Italy, from June 18 to July 5, 2025.

BUS 492 Luxury Business Strategy

Offered as part of the Merrill Family Global Campus Experience, this course is designed to immerse Beedie School of Business students in Italy's vibrant luxury, fashion, and food industries. Through lectures, experiential learning, and cultural activities, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique business practices, providing them with firsthand experience of the local culture and business environment. The course will integrate students enrolled at the host university to reinforce international exposure.

  • The 3–5-week duration makes study abroad accessible for students seeking a shorter experience.
  • Participants will receive a $2,000 subsidy from the Merrill Family Global Campus Experience Fund.
  • Participate in unique experiential opportunities, such as corporate visits, guest speakers, and cultural immersion activities.
  • SFU faculty-led courses allow you to study abroad while meeting your program requirements directly.
