Don’t ever try and tell Bill Lakeland that the sky is the limit. As head of Spexi Geospatial Inc., a commercial drone services company, Bill sees the sky as a source of limitless possibilities.

My experience at SFU Beedie

As an entrepreneur in aerial mapping and surveying, I wanted to round out my business skills with the MOT MBA.

My Journey

Halfway through my degree, I sold Kisik and made the Spexi business plan my applied MOT project. The entire experience helped me apply my learning to the real world while advancing my commercial drone services company. In the fall of 2017, I incorporated Spexi Geospatial and a year later, Spexi announced its soft launch.

Highlights

Through the program, I learned how to pool resources, build strong teams, and find external stakeholders and funding partners. I now have a much broader picture of how to expand into new markets using new technologies.

Where I am today

I serve as CEO of Spexi Geospatial Inc., offering automated flight plans for drones as well as processing of image data and products tailored for specific market segments.
